Job Description

Carriage Services is unique in that it manages a sizeable investment portfolio of debt and equity securities for funeral and cemetery trusts. We are seeking a Director of Investment Research to support executive leadership in managing the Discretionary Trust Portfolio and identifying investment opportunities to support the long-term growth of Carriage’s operating businesses. The right “Who” will have expertise in portfolio management, including the analysis and selection of public/private credit and equity securities, and a broad understanding of the broader financial markets.
The “Who”
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or other business-related field; MBA or CFA preferred;
- 7+ years’ experience in securities or credit analysis within a financial institution or an investment company
- Knowledge of financial statements, credit documents and SEC reports; ability to analyze financial models;
- Ability to effectively provide written/verbal communication regarding investment securities and investment portfolio strategy;
- Experience working with Bloomberg terminal;
- Acute attention to detail and ability to work in team dynamic; and
- Proficient use of MS Office – particularly Excel.
The “What”
- Identify, research and provide investment recommendations to executive leadership with a focus on public equities and investment grade / high yield bonds (including private placements);
- Understand and monitor macroeconomic conditions and factors that could affect portfolio performance, rebalancing and investment strategy;
- Prepare curated analyses and reports on selected investment opportunities, including the review of public filings, corporate presentations, conference call transcripts and 3rdparty research;
- Analyze credit profiles and covenant structure of current and potential fixed income investments, understanding the risk/reward tradeoff for individual securities among the broader investment portfolio;
- Maintain relationships with brokers to execute equity and fixed income trades;
- Support Chief Financial Officer with management of Carriage’s SEC registered investment advisory (RIA) subsidiary;
- Prepare reports for executive management, Board of Directors and SEC financial reporting.

Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $150,000.00 – $175,000.00 per year
